Digital SIgnage ExpoDigital Signage Expo’s Q2 ‘09 Business Barometer Reveals Gradual Improvement, Higher Ad Spend in DOOH Industry

ATLANTA, GA  — Digital Signage Expo (DSE), the world’s largest International Tradeshow and Conference dedicated to digital signage, interactive technology and out-of-home networks, has announced that the results of its Quarterly Business Barometer Survey for Q2 ’09.

94% of all survey participants in North America remain positive about the future of the Digital Out-of-Home Industry (59% Very Positive; 35% Somewhat Positive). Those who were most positive about the DOOH Industry included End Users/OOH Network Operators (67%), Advertising/Marketing (67%) and Technology/Content Providers (54%).

DOOH Business Continues a Gradual Increase
Technology Provider participants reported that DOOH business is picking up as more than half (54%) of respondents were very bullish about business and 53% projected a dollar sales volume rise for DOOH Networks in Q3 of 2009, with 37% reporting higher dollar sales volumes in Q2 over Q1 2009, unchanged from the previous quarter.

Hottest Growth Categories
Technology Provider respondents predicted that the hottest growth categories for DOOH in the next 12 months would include Retail (40%), Healthcare (40%), Restaurant (35%), Education (34%), Arts/Entertainment (34%), Amusement/Gaming/Recreation (30%), Transportation (30%) and Corporate Campus (28%).

End-User Dollars are Committed to DOOH
68% of respondents indicated a commitment to add to, replace or upgrade current DS systems and another 8% confirmed plans to install for the first time.

Advertising Agency Buyers Recommending Higher Spend in DOOH
Just over two-thirds (68%) of survey participants said they plan to recommend or purchase DOOH advertising during Q3 2009, with close to half of respondents (48%) indicating a higher DOOH network advertising spend, an 11% increase over the previous quarterly report. The top categories targeted for that investment were: Retail, Restaurants/Bars/Nightclubs, Public Spaces, Healthcare, Arts/Entertainment, and Amusement/Gaming/Recreation.
